General Deodorant Questions

What's the difference between a natural deodorant and organic deodorant?

Organic deodorant is just that: deodorant made entirely without chemicals that meets USDA organic standards. Organic deodorant doesn’t use toxic synthetic pesticides, toxic synthetic herbicides or chemical NPK fertilizers in production or any synthetic or chemical products in the deodorant itself. In order to be labeled “organic,” producers and processors are subject to rigorous standards that include certification inspections by third-party inspectors to ensure they produce and process according to USDA standards. If a deodorant is labeled organic, you can be sure it is safe and made with ingredients you can trust.

Natural deodorant is not the same as organic deodorant. Natural can mean many things and any product can be labeled “natural.” There are no rigorous standard to meet and therefore no guarantee that the product is free from toxic chemicals or pesticides.

Why is aluminum free deodorant important?

Although we tend to call anything we swipe under our arms deodorant, there are actually two types of armpit Rx. Deodorant is made to curb body odor and antiperspirant stops sweat. Antiperspirants also contain aluminum salts that plug pores in order to decrease perspiration. Sweating is an important bodily function, helping to regulate body temperature and flush toxins. Prolonged use of aluminum on the skin disrupts this healthy process and is associated with a variety of health issues. Organic 101 is a deodorant not an antiperspirant and contains no aluminum.

Aluminum has been associated with a variety of health problems, [2] [3] [4] including:

Top Organic Deodorant brands?

According to Allure Magazine, the top organic deodorant brands are:

  • Jasons
  • Tarte
  • Ursa Major
  • Think Sport

The only problem with this list is that none of these deodorants are certified organic. Organic 101 is a certified 100% organic by the USDA and guaranteed safe for you and your family.

Deodorant vs Antiperspirant?

Deodorant is categorized as a health and beauty product because it is used to mask or neutralize body odor. Antiperspirant is classified as “drug” because it temporarily changes skin function by suppressing the flow of sweat. Organic 101 is classified as a deodorant.

What is the best deodorant for sensitive skin?

For those with sensitive skin, Organic 101 contains ingredients that nourish the skin while gently neutralizing odor. There are no irritating dyes, scents, parabens, aluminum or baking soda that can harm sensitive skin and Organic 101 uses no pesticides, herbicides or chemicals in our certified organic deodorant.

Why is baking soda in deodorant bad?

Baking soda can remove the skin's protective oil barrier, alter its pH, and disrupt natural surface bacteria causing dry, irritated and rash-prone skin. While baking soda is an effective deodorizer, its highly alkaline pH and abrasive texture make it too harsh to be used daily on skin.

Will your organic deodorant leave a stain on my clothes?
